Serum motilin in gastrointestinal diseases.
In order to investigate the possible involvement of gastrointestinal hormones in functional disorders of the digestive tract, serum motilin, neurotensin and gastrin levels in their response to oral intake of fat and glucose were examined in patients with irritable colon syndrome and dumping syndrome. The following results were obtained. (1) Basal serum motilin levels were higher in patients wit...
متن کاملSerum CEA levels in gastrointestinal diseases.
Preoperative carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) levels in 36 colorectal carcinoma patients were corrected in accordance with pathological stage and tumor location. Increasing levels of CEA were found in advanced stages of the disease. There were no significant differences among the CEA levels of right-sided colon tumors, left-sided tumors and rectal tumors.
متن کاملActions of motilin on gastrointestinal motility and plasma immunoreactive motilin concentration in interdigestive and postprandial states.
Among biological actions of motilin on gastrointestinal motility, its action to induce phase III, activity front, of interdigestive myoelectric complex (IMC) appears to be of physiological significance. Synthetic motilin in a dose as little as 0.06 microgram/kg-h was shown to induce phase III in dog. A cyclic increase in fasting plasma immunoreactive motilin concentration (PIMC) occurred in pha...
متن کاملThe Roles of Motilin and Ghrelin in Gastrointestinal Motility
In structure, ghrelin resembles motilin. The two peptides are considered to be members of the motilin-ghrelin peptide family. Motilin is considered to be an endocrine regulator of the interdigestive migrating contractions, the fasted motor pattern in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It has been reported that ghrelin stimulates GI motility. The gastrokinetic capacity of ghrelin has been well doc...
متن کاملStability of 3-bromotyrosine in serum and serum 3-bromotyrosine concentrations in dogs with gastrointestinal diseases
BACKGROUND 3-Bromotyrosine (3-BrY) is a stable product of eosinophil peroxidase and may serve as a marker of eosinophil activation. A gas chromatography/mass spectrometry method to measure 3-BrY concentrations in serum from dogs has recently been established and analytically validated. The aims of this study were to determine the stability of 3-BrY in serum, to determine the association between...
